Even after four months, the Dearness Allowance (DA) case was not heard in the Supreme Court. On Monday, the hearing of the case was adjourned in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court will give a new date for hearing later.
In 2022, the DA case was first heard in the Supreme Court on November 18. A section of lawyers associated with the DA case believe that in the current situation, the matter is now unlikely to be settled. It may take more time.
A section of state government employees had filed a case in the Calcutta High Court demanding central rates and arrears of dearness allowance or DA. On May 20, 2022, the High Court directed the state to pay DA to the employees at the same rate of 31 percent as the Center.
The State Government Employees Federation, Ekta Manch, and Government Employees Council won in the High Court. The state went to the Supreme Court challenging this order.
Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi presented arguments on behalf of the state. His question was that if DA has to be given as per the decision of the High Court, then about Rs 41 thousand 770 crore will be spent. At present it is difficult for the state government to bear the financial burden.
